When one thinks of animation, what immediately comes to mind is cartoons or animated television shows and movies for children. The use of quirky characters, interesting storylines and vivid imagery in these are quick to hold people’s attention. Looking for something special that would appeal to their young viewers, a Norwegian based online television network got in touch with the Fat Hamster Animation Studio, to create a music video for a children’s show hosted on their network.
The Fat Hamster team dove right in, starting with character sketching and conceptualizing assets as they do for all their projects. They then put these into the software and traced them in order to create reusable templates for the animation part.
The project was based solely on 2D and software like Toon Boom Harmony were used for the animation part. They also used software called After Effects and Premiere Pro for the compositing part.
As one of the founders, Rohan Ponniah said, “This was a different style in comparison to our previous projects and we strive to always push our boundaries in the style and workflow that we follow, all the while, still retaining a strong baseline for consistency.”
A part of the Nordic Intent family in Porvorim, Goa, the Fat Hamster Animation Studio works with a number of mediums, from illustration to augmented reality, to deliver various forms of animation and creative content. These can be seen across different platforms such as online, social media, film, app integration and more.
This music video was just one fun project that the team has worked on for a children’s show. With the success they’ve garnered from it, they look forward to working on many more similar projects for television networks in the Scandinavian market, the current client included. Additionally, they already have more projects based on mass personalization videos as well as explainer videos, in the works.
