Days before the Football World Cup 2018 kicked off, a group of Goan football enthusiasts got together and came up with a plan to organize an annual Copa Bay15 Corporate Cup. These gentlemen included Mr.Peter Vaz, the head of Models Group of Companies, Mr. Victor Fernandes, CEO of Sporting Clube de Goa, Mr. Eddie Noronha, manager of the club, Mr. Norton Pereira, General Manager of Le Meridien Goa and Mr. Judah Fernandez, CEO of Kodework / Ninestack and also the General Secretary of Sporting Clube de Goa.
The tournament was held at Bay15 in Odxel, Dona Paula. Around 10 different companies and brands from around Goa participated in this tournament – Models Construction, Le Meridien Goa, Sporting Clube de Goa, Ninestack, Herald, Navhind Times and Kodework. The teams were then divided in Pool A and Pool B.
The rules of the game stated that each team must have 1 senior member and 1 girl. But not all teams could abide by this rule as the number of players were limited.
The match started at 5:30 pm. All the teams were all excited and pumped up to take on each other.
The semi-finals saw 4 teams go up against each other – Kodework vs Ninestack and Le Meridien Cannons vs Jamboree. Kodework and Ninestack put out a real tough match where Kodework emerged as winners with a score of 2-0, while team Jamboree beat Le Meridien to a score of 2-1. Both, Kodework and Jamboree entered the finals.
The final match had all eyes rolling in excitement. Claps, cheers, and shouts of support could be heard all over Bay15. After a crazy dodge, Jamboree scored a 3-1 win over Kodework. Jamobree emerged as the premier winners of the Copa Bay15 Corporate Football Cup and Kodework were the runners-up, with Suraj Nath and Nicole Alvares being awarded the player of the tournament and girl player of the tournament, respectively.
The entire tournament was such a success that Mr. Vaz said that they should make this as an annual event!
