Malaysia is a popular tourist destination in South-East Asia and is fast gaining favor as a business destination with other countries across the world. Quite naturally, Nordic Intent’s co-founder, Judah Fernandez decided to make a trip there and find out more about what it is that makes Malaysia so appealing.
While Judah initially headed to Malaysia for the Kuala Lumpur Major (a gaming convention that we’ll hear more about soon), this trip soon became a reconnaissance mission. He found the place to be fantastic as a business destination with a rapidly evolving economy. From what he observed, not only do most Malaysians speak English, the country has a brilliant infrastructure and actually isn’t all that expensive despite having a high standard of living. Judah even found the restaurants with their exotic cuisine and the nightlife in Malaysia to be top class, offering quality service to visitors.
The country is relatively small in size, located in close proximity to Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia all of which are famous tourist destinations as well. Malaysia sees approximately 20 – 30 million visitors a year, ranking 9th in the world for tourist arrivals. The graph below shows how much tourism has grown over the years. Kuala Lumpur, the capital, is famous thanks to its skyline being dominated by the 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers, a pair of glass-and-steel-clad skyscrapers with Islamic motifs.
By the end of this trip, Judah was quite enthralled with Malaysia, believing that the country could be an awesome option for an offshore production house besides having the existing production office in Goa.
From the sound of things, it looks like Malaysia has made it to the top of the list thanks to all the mentioned reasons and the fact that it has lower taxes in comparison to India. Nordic Intent is definitely considering setting up a satellite office in Malaysia sometime in the future.
