NineStack has never needed a reason to celebrate any event or festival at the office. With Holi being celebrated in Goa, the team decided to organize a small event where everyone got to enjoy themselves at the end of the day.
The event turned out to be a team painting activity with a Holi based theme. Employees came dressed in white and were then divided into five teams comprising of four members each. They came up with creative names like Charlie and his Angels, i-Shapati, Untouchables, Pak-Pak-Pakkak and GullyBuoyss. Each team was then given four colours, with each member picking one colour to use. No paint brushes were provided, therefore using their hands, they had to paint a scene with elements pertaining to the festival of colours.
This had to be completed within fifteen minutes and at the end, one member from each team had to explain what they were trying to depict through their painting.
What ensued over the next fifteen minutes was a mix of teamwork, creativity and a little bit of chaos, for good measure. Each team came up with a concept and began working on it, using the colours given to them. The concepts used for each painting were extremely creative ranging from depictions of people playing Holi to showing the Holika Dahan in all its glory.
At the end of the activity, the five teams were judged on the concept they came up with, the creativity they put into the artwork and how well they worked together. After all, as their Chief of Operations said, “Besides holding this fun event for Holi, the other reason for having it was to test the team’s communication skills and on how well they work together.”
The three judges unanimously agreed that the GullyBuoyss’ painting of the Holika Dahan was the best, earning them the first place. After the event, the participants and judges got to enjoy some Kachoris, in the spirit of Holi celebrations.
Holi happens to be one of the biggest and most fun festivals celebrated in India. It is a celebration of good over evil, brought about by the burning and destruction of the demoness Holika. People spend the day smearing coloured powder all over each other’s faces, throwing coloured water at each other, having parties, and dancing under water sprinklers.
The NineStack team outdoes itself for every event they conduct and Holi was certainly no different. It’s going to be interesting to find out how they top this year’s festivities, next year.
