NineStack’s Share-It sessions have shown that they add value to all that the team does on a daily basis. This week’s session was on a new programming language named Kotlin that will eventually play a major part for the developers at the company.
In layman’s terms, Kotlin is a programming and development language that is used to build Android applications rapidly. However, in order to use Kotlin, one needs to be fluent in Java, another programming language that is used by developers across the globe.
One of NineStack’s Android developers led this session, where he spoke about what Kotlin is along with the elements that make up this programming language. He walked the NineStack team through its advantages as well as drawbacks and talked about how Kotlin and Java are interoperable (which means they can be used together).
This latest NineStack Share-It session ended with a round of Q&A where the team asked a lot of questions about how Kotlin works and how it would be beneficial in the long run when it came to app development. It was a short but extremely informative meeting and the team looks forward to learning and experiencing all that Kotlin has to offer.
In fact, some team members were enthusiastic enough to share their views on this session.
“The Share-It session was very helpful considering there’s a new alternative language for Android programming along with the fact that it has proved to be very effective and easy to adopt for all Android developers. The instructor managed to precisely explain all the core advantages/disadvantages along with why it can be a game changer in the future.”
– UI Developer, NineStack
The instructor explained the concepts in a very simple manner with clear and concrete examples. Hence, it was easy to grasp. He also presented it with great fervor and enthusiasm! My only suggestion is that we have more question and answer sessions in future meetings.”
-.Net Team Lead, NineStack
“Being an iOS Developer and using Swift as my primary development language, it was a very relatable session since Kotlin is similar to Swift. I am glad I was a part of this session. It also helped me revise some of the programming concepts I had forgotten.”
-Jr. IOS developer, NineStack
All these Share-It sessions are held with the purpose of helping each employee learn as they work. Check out their .Net and Software Architecture sessions from a couple of months ago. Every session has been very informative so far and employees have benefited a great deal from the same.
