In a bid to make Goa the preferred startup and IT destination of India, Mr. Rohan Khaunte – Minister of Revenue, IT, Labour and Employment, Government of Goa – certified 31 Goan startups for registering themselves under the Startup India Cell at the 3rd High Powered Committee meeting.
Globally acknowledged as the bright star on India’s tourist map, Goa is on a mission to showcase its other side – as the go-to destination for IT firms and startups. Learning from the successes and challenges of the startup boom in larger cities, Goa is leveraging its unique strengths to become one of the Top 25 startup destinations in Asia by 2025.
Startups that are less than 5 years old and make a gross yearly profit of less than Rs. 25 Cr. could register themselves under the Startup India Cell. Four out of our 9 startups, namely Creometric, Ninestack, Creoplay and Bootcamp registered under this scheme to avail benefits.
The man of the hour, Mr. Rohan Khaunte delivered a passionate discourse on why Indian entrepreneurs need to be in Goa and elaborated on the state’s new focus on IT and startups. One of his goals, he stated, was to formulate a startup culture in Goa where the youth of the state became job creators and not job seekers. He also encouraged all the registered startups to apply for incentive schemes under the Goa Startup Policy that have been specially curated to upscale and support the start-up ecosystem in Goa.
The state government is also offering a host of financial and infrastructural incentives for businesses to come to Goa. These policies aim to make Goa a vibrant destination for IT and ITeS businesses.
